Facing

  • Heatset tissue applied with ethanol to edges of spine leather.

  • Spine leather up to outermost sewing supports lifted

Final Parts

  • Spine facing was removed using ethanol as the solvent.

  • Spine leather reattached using Lascaux.

  • Moriki paper outer hinge attached over spine leather and under board leather using Lascaux.

  • Tengujo paper adhered to edge of board leather with Aytex-P to prevent leather catching.

  • Paper toned and finished with SC-6000.

Split Outer Hinge

  • Airplane cotton attached to spine liner under leather.

  • Each tab was split vertically.

    • The outer parts went over the boards and were pasted under the leather.

    • The inner parts went under the boards and were pasted under the paste down.

Inner hinge

  • Medium weight Korean tissue pretoned with acryclics to match lighter areas of endsheets.

  • Inner hinge partially attached with Aytex-P into shoulder (saving space while outer hinge is completed).

  • Tissue left overlong, pasted and torn after outer hinge repair is finsihed.
